I saw Tron: Legacy yesterday.
I'm highly disappointed. For one, I'd like to see in movies images of future that are not dystopias. The feel of the movie was more like Blade Runner with the black and darkness all around. The world of the original movie was, in my opinion, more compelling.
The plot was unsurprising. They toss in the open source movement, but don't take it anywhere. They also had a few nods to the original movie, but they were left mostly simple references with the exception of Tron (the character), who could've just as well be dropped from the movie altogether, I think.
I've read that the movie should've been cut shorter -- I didn't feel it like that. There were not many 'wow'-3D moments in the movie.
The movie also seems to invalidate Tron 2.0 pretty completely from the continuum. At the same time, it also invalidates the epilogue of RanmaTronic.
For a moment, I had thought of writing a sequel to RanmaTronic (RanmaTronic: Purge) but now that I think about it, I can't bring Ranma and Nabiki into the equation without the whole setup drastically changing and making the necessary plot development into an impossibility. I don't know if I'll ever start writing the fic, even if I got across the problems.
